Abstract
In traditional Japanese embroidery, the left hand is kept under the embroidery frame and the right hand is on top. All stitches are made toward the body or from right to left. A Japanese frame that gets the fabric drum-head tight is a necessity. Silk ground fabric and reeled (unspun) silk thread are used. Japanese embroidery needles, threads, stitching frames, and techniques are described.
