Abstract
Characteristics of airflows supplied from axial fans can differ from typical free turbulent jets, due to the strong turbulences caused by the proximity and operation of fan’s rotor. In order to compare both types of airflows appropriate investigations were conducted at the Department of Air Conditioning and Heating at Warsaw University of Technology. Comparison of airflows parameters for jets supplied from an axial fan whose diameter was 315 mm and from a circular duct of the same dimension was made during investigations. Measurements were made with multi-channel system equipped with omnidirectional, thermoanemometric sensors. Basing on the measurements characteristics of velocity decay in the axis of the flow and transverse velocity profiles were prepared. Characteristics allowed us to estimate decrease of throw for airflow supplied from the axial fan. Contour graphs of constant velocities in the axis section of the flow present the differences in the jets distribution and in the angle of discharge.
