Abstract
A 15th-century Hungarian girl's headdress called párta and a párta-belt were unearthed in the uncovering of the medieval cemetery at Sály, Hungary, 1985. When lifting it up at the excavation site the párta was conserved on the skull by a solution of poly-vinyl-butyral in denatured alcohol; the belt was stored in wet cotton wool and thymol disinfectant until restoration began. The metal parts of the párta and the belt were cleaned by sodium hexa-meta-phosphate, and Selekton B2 solution, conservation was carried out by Paraloid B72 solution. For completions Viapal H210B5 was used, grossly incomplete fragments were mounted on duplicates. For the cleaning and conservation of the leather belt fat liquor was applied, a final treatment was carried out with sheepskin dyed with aniline. -- AATA
