Enka has developed a very fine membrane, trademarked Sympatex, to assist in waterproofing and windproofing textiles and shoes while, at the same time, permitting water vapor and perspiration to pass through to the outside. The Sympatex membrane is made of polyester and has no pores, but transports water via a hydrophilic mechanism. The membrane is part of a simple, insert, or triple laminate or laminated lining. -- AATA
