Abstract
Cammann discusses the development and design of the Mandarin square , first worn in the early Ming dynasty. These badges of rank were worn by Chinese nobles and officials and their wives. He notes a particular square, tm 1977/ 3, a k'o-ssu (tapestry) panel with a naturalistic pattern, as being an example of early ming 7th rank.
