Abstract
The lyre which came to Philadelphia in 1929 after the ur excavations was composed of a bull head of gold and lapis lazuli and a frontal plaque of shell set in bitumen. It was then provided an entirely new soundbox with fake inlay. In 1977 it has been decided to construct a new soundbox and to restore the bull head. The examination of the head is described in details.
