Abstract
X-ray fluorescence analyses of the pigments on early American watercolors, fraktur, paint boxes, and two fraktur painters' boxes has proven that both fraktur artists, and their contemporary watercolorists, used commercially available pigments. The availability of these pigments is borne out by historical evidence.
