Abstract
The fragility of works of art in pastel represents a continuing problem for conservators. Several traditional methods of fixing were tested and all were found to alter the original appearance of sample pastels. By creating an electrostatic attraction between the pastel particles and their support through the use of an Electrostatic Stabilizing Plate, the samples were maintained in their original condition without subjecting them to any irreversible processes. In addition the E.S.P. may have other practical applicalions
