Abstract
Below the cathedral of Trier there is a large, Roman hall, which had a painted wooden ceiling. About 50,000 of 100,000 fragments of this ceiling could be traced to their original position. To conserve this ceiling, the fragments were consolidated by impregnation with Paraloid B-72 dissolved in toluene. The consolidated areas were fixed on an aluminum honeycomb support. Finally, the missing parts were filled and retouched.
