Abstract
During the years 1813-1816 the Danish painter C.W. Eckersberg lived in Rome. On basis of his diary from that time comments are given about the colors, (lead white, red and green lake, gamboge, bitumen, genuine ultramarine and smalt.) In addition to the usual colors of that time, he also purchased Chrome Yellow in 1815. This had been discovered in 1809, but until now it has been presumed that large-scale production had not started until 1820. -- AATA
