Abstract
In 1982 the Auldjo jug was loaned by the British Museum to the Corning Museum of Glass for the exhibition, Cameo Glass, Masterpieces from 2000 years of Glassmaking . This paper describes the method devised to restore the jug prior to its display at Corning. The previous plaster restoration had become damaged; it was removed and a polyester embedding resin was used to fill the missing areas. The method for preparing an outer silicon rubber and an inner mold for the casting of the resin is detailed and illustrated. The author gives an assessment of 4 polyester and 4 epoxide casting resins including their adhesive properties and the results of artificial aging tests.
