Abstract
The history of art objects and their conservation is surveyed. A central scientific laboratory, established in 1958, deals with conservation procedures, scientific research, designing conservation equipment, gathering and disseminating scientific information. Exchange of information with other countries is considered very important. There are more than one thousand museums in the USSR. -- ICCROM
