Abstract
The study attempts to find a method to remedy the damage caused by CaSOub>4 on a frescoed wall. The progress of treatments of CaSo* l4*s cylinders with (NHub>4)ub>2COub>3 was checked with an X-ray spectrograph designed for the study of kinetic formation of crystalline compounds via interphase reaction on solid samples. The reaction: CaSOub>4.2Hub>2O + (NHub>4)ub>2COub>3 right arrow CaCOub>3 + (NHub>4)ub>2SOub>4 + Hub>2O; (NHub>4)ub>2SOub>4 + Ba(OH)ub>2 right arrow BaSOub>4 + 2NHub>4OH. Successful restoration of mural has been carried out with this process.
