Abstract
Using an ultrasensitive amino-acid analyzer, 19 amino-acids were determined quantitatively in the residue of a vial dating to 600 A.D. The composition is intermediate between that of the skin and hair of civet cats, leading to the suggestion that the vial may have been a perfume bottle containing a crude preparation of civet and slaked lime. -- AATA
