Abstract
Two caribou hide robes in the exhibition Athapaskan - Strangers of the North were vandalized with blue, ballpoint ink while on display in Anchorage. Several chemical, mechanical and combined removal treatments were tested on experimental material. A purely mechanical method - using Dumont No. 3 Microforceps under a stereomicroscope - was chosen. The subsequent methods of reproducing surface texture and color are described.
