The five simple rules for display of books and paper presented separately at the top of the article are discussed in turn. They are: 1) Use copies whenever possible; 2) Do not display a valuable artifact permanently; 3) Keep light levels as low as possible. Do not put lamps inside cases; 4) Minimize exposure to ultraviolet light with appropriate filters; and 5) Insure that cases and frames are enclosed, sealed, and made of materials that will not attack objects on display.
