Excavations in Dorset yielded charred plant remains that were separated by the froth flotation technique (following a 10mm-mesh dry-sieving for recovery of larger artifacts) using the usual filtering practice to avoid cross-contamination of samples. This paper reports the discovery of a single charred <i>Vitis vinifera</i> grape seed. It was submitted to the Radiocarbon Laboratory of the University of Oxford along with wheat specimens, and the Neolithic age of the grape seed was confirmed at 4660± 80 b.p., the radiocarbon dates of all the specimens being in good agreement. These findings are further discussed in the light of other recorded examples from France and Greece. Whether or not the grape was grown in that precise Dorset location could not be elucidated. -- AATA
