The fine structure of the amorphous region of silk fibers is examined relative to the change in dyeing properties which result when silk is exposed to sunlight. Dye uptake, saturation value, and the heat of adsorption of the acid dye with the exposed silk were lower and the rates of dye adsorption during the early stage were higher than the control sample, indicating a change in structure. -- AATA
