Abstract
Chelating agents are characterized by possession of at least two functional groups capable of interacting, in concert, with a metal ion to form a ring structure called a chelate ring. Nomenclature, hazards, fundamental concepts, and uses, especially for metal cleaning and scale removal are discussed.
