Abstract
Particular forms of de-alloying in copper alloys are discussed and the literature available on this topic is surveyed. The practising conservator is made aware of the importance of avoiding treatments which cause de-alloying when working with copper alloys. The results of a preliminary experiment on de-alloying in a solution generally used for treating bronzes is discussed.
