Information is needed concerning the emission, the atmospheric dispersion, and the deposition of the pollutants in the various geographical areas. Further, one has to identify the aggressive chemical components which may possibly be present in sufficient amounts to have an effect on the archaeological samples. Finally, the extent of such effects will depend on the type of specimens and how deep in the ground and in what type of soil they are buried.
