Means and techniques of preservation and restoration of stone statues applied at the Erfurt branch of the Institute for the preservation of Monuments are explained. A newly developed documentation method which consists of coinciding plastic sheets placed over a basic photograph is described and evaluated. Furthermore, the author reports on fundamental contributions on the documentation of stone statues.
