Abstract
One of the greatest Baroque sculptors, Balthasar Permoser, used various types of stone during his life, including several kinds of limestone from Mount Untersberg near Salzburg, marble from Carrara in Italy and from Crottendorf in the Saxon part of the Erzgebirge mountains, alabaster, and last but not least, the fine-grained quartzitic sandstone from the Elbsandsteingebirge mountains. Today, 250 years after his death, only part of his once large collection survives.
