Abstract
Following an enquiry by the French Ministry for the Interior begun in 1810, the prefects of the various departments were requested to send samples of the kinds of clay used in their departments for pottery production (and a report on the pottery works) to the manager of the Sèvres Manufacture. The Department of Montenotte in Liguria (then under French administration) submitted a very full and detailed report, which is published here. Two kinds of clay-red and white-were found there, and two kinds of paste were made from them. The manu facturing procedure and the composition of the glazes are described. The Sèvres Manufacture's suggestions and advice on how to improve production are also published. -- AATA
