Abstract
Study proposes a new way to impart wrinkle-recovery (easy care) performance of cotton-fabrics by employing citric-acid treatment with nano sized -TiO2 as co-catalyst in. Citric-acid was identified as a successful cross-linking agent for crease-resistant finish. It was found that adding nano-particles in treatment further enhances wrinkle-resistance of cotton-fabrics through its photo-catalytic property. Experiments were designed using box-behnken method with three levels and their variables, such as citric-acid as cross-linking agent, catalyst sodium-dihydrogen-phosphate, and co-catalyst TiO2 nano-particles. Regression equations were obtained to analyze fabric properties using 27 combinations and optimum process parameters were identified. Optimum process parameters were found to be 10% citric-acid, 5% sodium-dihydrogenphosphate and 0.06% nano-TiO2 It’s observed that high concentration of citric-acid increases recovery-angle and decreases tensile-strength of cotton-fabric. There was negligible effect of nano-particles beyond 0.06% on recovery-angle.
