The keyhole shaped tombs are important in Japanese archaeology because it is believed that their structure is related to the social conditions at the time of their construction. This article presents a classification of their shapes using the computer techniques of template matching, and the author suggests reasons for this method over conventional typologies in volving its objectivity. -- AATA
