An attempt to discover whether flint was deliberately heated to facilitate its working using mesolithic flint assemblages from North Holland used scanning electron microscopy and thermoluminescence to study the ancient flints and those heated during experiments. Although many ancient flints were found to have been heated, there was no conclusive evidence that it was intentional. -- AATA
