The works of Beaume and Quatremere Disjonval on cement chemistry (and particularly the analytical and theoretical writings of the latter) are described as well as the works of Vitalis, Collet-Descotils, and Vicat (specifically his work on the manufacture of concrete and mortars, and the chemical effects of seawater and its components on mortars).
