Abstract
Two figurines, probably dating from the 18th century, were studied using x-radiography, with x-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. They were made from lumps of realgar cemented together with a mixture of pine resin and vermilion. The realgar surface had photooxidized to give orpiment and arsenious oxide.
