Abstract
In 1963, 20 years after its discovery, the French Department of Cultural Affairs decided to close Lascaux and conduct research into the causes of deterioration. The cave of Lascaux is a living and complex environment and the studies have permitted us to determine its dependence on the surrounding environment and to find good conditions of conservation for its painting and engravings.
