Abstract
On walls with rising damp, zones showing different deterioration can be observed. Salts are precipitated on the walls according to their solubility: the more soluble salts precipitate at greater heights. The dampness due to hygroscopic salts in the upper zone of the wall may not be eliminated even if rising damp is halted. The difficulty of rising damp can be made more severe due to alkaline salts deposited by modern building materials. See also AATA 14-1123, 20-815, and 21-914. -- AATA
