A series of sandstones was treated with ethyl-silicates and waterproofing compounds. The specimens were tested by accelerated weathering using Na₂So₄ solutions and dilute acids to simulate attack by salt crystallization and acid rain. A combined treatment of ethyl-silicate and a waterproofing product proved to be the best method to protect sandstone from weathering.
