Abstract
Turmeric used as a dye or pigment on ethnographic objects turns from yellow to red-brown in alkaline conditions. Great care must be taken with cleaning, consolidation, repair, storage and display of objects of this nature. Analytical methods to identify the dye were tested and compared. -- ICCROM
