Abstract
The former Emperor's Palace Chapel in Vienna, built about 1450, retains its formal gothic appearance, including 14 polychromed wooden statues of ca. 1480 on the pillars. Examination ascertained how the vaults and walls appeared in different periods, and their relationship to the polychromy of the statues. 18 layers of wallpaintings and whitewashings of different colors were listed, dated and partly cleaned and restored. Microscopic wood examination was used; results are given. -- AATA
