Abstract
Small pebbles of radiolarites of Malmian age (Kalkalpin) and of Upper Cretaceous spiculites (Rhenodanubic Flysch zone) were recognized in thin-sections made from sherds of pottery in the Bavarian-Suebian region (Rosshaupten-Hafenhofen area northeast of Burgau). The ceramic clay was taken from the hanging beds of the Lower Deckschotter of the Danube cold period of Lower Pleistocene. Regionally the clay outcrops belong to the Zusam gravel plate which forms part of the Northern Iller-Lech gravel plate. These scattered findings appear to relate to a former pottery at Hafenhofen which mainly existed during the 18th century. In addition, the neighboring pottery at Jettingen on the river Mindel is discussed. It is planned to carry out more research on the younger ceramics of the Bavarian-Suebian region, which is hitherto nearly unknown. The investigation of thin-sections will play a major role in this project. -- AATA
