Sherds from glazed pottery, made in southern Germany in the 19th century, were analyzed by means of thin-section and a sediment petrographical separation of the components. Different centers of production can be distinguished because of different particles of stone and minerals. The quartz-feldspar ratio has proved to be of peculiar importance for the characterization of clays. Different techniques of manufacture could also be deduced from the microscopic analysis of the sherds. -- AATA
