Abstract
The author describes the treatment in the field and subsequently in the laboratory of ethnographic specimens collected in the Papua, New Guinea area. The climatic conditions in the area made the use of chemicals impossible and the methods of storage and protection of the specimens used reflect this. Fumigation cleaning and consolidation methods carried out when the specimens were brought to the British Museum are discussed.
