The original carriage built in 1837 to Lord Brougham's specifications and now in the Science Museum, London, was restored by the authors in 1977. The vehicle was completely dismantled. The ironwork was shotblasted and the paint completely stripped. Cracked wood panels were sheathed in aluminum rather than replaced before refinishing. Leatherwork was replaced as was some decayed wood in the frame. The trim required some replacement. -- AATA
