Abstract
A summary of the current research on the materials of cabinet-making; i.e., the materials used to produce fine surfaces on furniture and weapons ranging from the 17th to the 19th century, with emphasis on the 18th century. Techniques of application are described. Ivory substitutes are discussed. These include ivory, bone, horn, mother-of-pearl, fish-bone, and fish-skin.
