Sweden is Europe’s largest exporter of iron ore with over 85% of the country’s output being sold abroad. Over 90% of the iron ore produced in Sweden comes from the operations of Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB). This article describes the mining and processing operations of LKAB and examines the contributions made by Swedish iron ore mining to the European steel industry.
