Abstract
Ceramics are made from clays which reflect the geological history of the area from which they were obtained. The opportunity for neutron activation analysis of more than 1200 ceramic samples from Greater Nicoya indicated the need from additional geological data and petrographic studies. The combined results of instrumental and petrographic analyses, and more traditional typological characterizations of Greater Nicoya ceramics, has contributed greatly to our understanding of patterns of regional production and distribution.
