Following a disasterous fire in 1989, this covered bridge that spans the Tygart Valley River was restored to its mid-nineteenth century appearance. Because the bridge is still in use, the steel girder and concrete-deck design introduced in 1938 has been retained. This project involved an exacting process of compromise. -- CAL
