Based on practices at the Stovall Museum of Science & History, University of Oklahoma, the article provides clear explanations of needs and methods practical for a small museum in controlling temperature, humidity, dust, light and the biological agents of deterioration in stored museum collections. It discusses desirable characteristics of work space, storage space and basic equipment and gives advice on the choice of materials for storing specimens, ways to minimize the dangers to the objects fr om handling, and on methods of storing textiles, headdresses, baskets and pottery.
