This article devoted to the work of Edilberto Formigli describes the initial research undertaken by the Laboratorio di Restauro della Soprintendenza alle Antichita d'Etruria (Restauration Laboratory of the Superintendent's Office for Etruscan Antiquities), to keep up to date during the dig a series of data useful for reconstructing the history of the object. In the usual dig many parts of this sort of data are lost. This lab of Florence, born after the 1966 flood thanks to the Ministry of Public Instruction and to continuing contacts with the Central Restauration Institute, can do this top quality work because of its passionately interested collaborators, particularly the lab director, Prof. Mauro Cristofani. Formigli presents two interesting problems here: certain bronze objects from the second advanced facies and from an orientalising age proposing several stimulating solutions to the questions on the techniques for working bronze in the 8th and 7th centuries B.C.
