Abstract
Publishes in full a manuscript booklet containing recipes for the composition of glazes and colors. The writer, Giacomo Lanzoni, was in 1830 chief modeler, and then for a short while director, of the Ferniani ceramics factory in Faenza; however, it has been claimed that the work derives from a manuscript of Luigi Benini (dated 1790), a painter at that factory. The text also contains recipes added between circa 1884 and 1891 by Romeo Visani, the founder of the Ditta Ceramica Visani at Forli. The introduction contains observations on the most interesting recipes (those for Sinigalia, and rosso a gran fuoco paints) and inferences regarding the composition of cobalt blue, based on the prices of minerals at the time. -- AATA
