Abstract
The burial stones from the Porta Nuova are made by different materials (marbles, limestone, micaschist). The decay of marbles and limestones, as revealed by the gypsum crusts, comes from the presence of sulfur dioxide in the urban atmosphere. The decay of micaschist comes from the freezing/thawing cycles. Treatments of cleaning, consolidation, and protection are suggested. -- AATA
