Abstract
Data are tabulated on the fiber dimensions (average length, diameter, and cell wall thickness) and values derived from them (runkel ratio, flexibility coefficient, and relative fiber length) of 40 timber species (including <i>Gmelina arborea</i> at 8, 12, 16 and 20 years old, and top, middle and butt samples from <i>Eucalyptus camaldulensis</i>), 13 bamboo species, 6 grasses and 10 miscellaneous fibrous species. Of the species studied, 33 timber species, 3 bamboos, 2 grasses, and 4 miscellaneous species were found to be suitable for papermaking. Fiber length in <i>G. arborea</i> increased with age, but all ages studied were suitable for papermaking. Fibers form the top of <i>E. camaldulensis</i> were less strong than those from lower portions. -- AATA
