Abstract
Physical and mechanical properties of birch (Betula pubescens and B. verrucosa (B. pendula)) are reviewed and compared with other species grown in Norway (mainly Picea abies). Although strength properties are sufficient for construction purposes, durability is suspect even after preservative treatment.
