Now that many of the best construction firms that helped rebuild Central Europe after World War II have gone into receivership for lack of business, and the available talent potential has been absorbed by the industrial and home building boom of the 1960's, many European countries have again begun actively trying to improve the situation of the trade. Governments, motivated by social and labor aspects, have realized that the preservation of the quality of life in cities and active environmental conservation would be empty slogans without the promotion of those traditionally qualified occupational groups in the construction and connected industries. The departments of landmarks and ancient monuments recognized and campaigned for the present level of training as well as the social prestige of these occupational groups in order to achieve proper results in the conservation and restoration of landmarks and ancient monuments.
