The material in this booklet has been prepared to answer the questions usually asked by personnel engaged in the receiving, storing or handling of ethylene oxide, as well as those concerned with the design of storage and transfer facilities. This material is arranged to answer the everyday operational questions concerning safety, container details, materials of construction, physical properties; and to provide specific instructions for transferring ethylene oxide from shipping containers to intermediate storage and process equipment. While this information is sufficiently extensive to answer the questions generally raised in connection with ethylene oxide storage and handling, we realize that facilities must be designed, in many instances, to meet special space requirements or unusual local conditions which may require details differing somewhat from the general standards or procedures outlined here.
